Taboo Web Companion:
Enhancing Gameplay through Digital Tools

Role: UX/UI Designer & Product Strategist | Project: Web Application for Taboo Classic and Taboo Uncensored
Platform: Browser-based, mobile and desktop accessible

The Challenge

Taboo’s iconic buzzer was beloved by players — but the original electronic version became too costly to manufacture. It was replaced with a dog-toy-style squeaker that received overwhelmingly negative feedback from consumers.

Hasbro needed a better solution that restored the energy of gameplay while keeping production costs down.

The Solution

I created a web companion app that brought key gameplay tools to players’ phones and computers, designed to elevate the play experience while replacing costly physical components.

Key Features:

  • Digital Buzzer — Reintroduced the satisfying buzzer experience players loved

  • Game Timer — Clearly visible countdown for timed turns

  • Score Tracker — Easy + / – buttons for Team 1 and Team 2

  • Responsive Interface — Optimized for both desktop and mobile

My Role

  • Led design and UX for the web experience

  • Worked cross-functionally with game and digital teams to align with gameplay mechanics

  • Ensured brand cohesion with Taboo's visual identity

  • Conducted internal testing to refine button size, interaction speed, and accessibility across devices

The Impact

  • Reduced need for costly plastic hardware

  • Increased player satisfaction with gameplay tools

  • Made the game more portable and accessible

  • Led to extensions for Taboo Uncensored and Scattergories gameplay as well
